Tips for Writing a Compelling Scholarship Application

Writing a compelling scholarship application can significantly increase your chances of being awarded a yoga scholarship. Here are some tips to help you prepare a winning application:

Start Early

Give yourself ample time to research scholarships, gather the necessary documents, and write thoughtful applications. Starting early will also allow you to seek guidance from mentors or teachers who can review your application and provide feedback.

Tailor Your Application

Each scholarship may have specific requirements or essay prompts. Tailor your application to meet these requirements and address the questions asked. Avoid generic responses and demonstrate your understanding of the scholarship’s values and mission.

Be Authentic

Scholarship providers appreciate authenticity. Write from the heart and share your personal journey with yoga. Use your unique voice and experiences to convey your passion and dedication. Avoid using clichés or copying from sample applications.

Highlight Your Strengths

Emphasize your strengths and what differentiates you from other applicants. Whether it’s your dedication to community service, your unique teaching style, or your experience in a particular style of yoga, make sure to showcase your strengths and how they align with the scholarship’s objectives.

Applying for Yoga Scholarships: Dos and Don’ts

When applying for yoga scholarships, there are certain dos and don’ts to keep in mind:

Do Follow Instructions

Read and follow the instructions provided by the scholarship program carefully. Failure to adhere to the guidelines may result in your application being disqualified.

Do Be Genuine

Be true to yourself and avoid exaggerating your experiences or qualifications. Scholarship providers value authenticity and are more likely to support applicants who are sincere and genuine.

Don’t Procrastinate

Give yourself ample time to complete the application. Procrastination can lead to rushed and subpar applications. Start early, plan your time wisely, and submit your application before the deadline.

Don’t Dismiss Small Scholarships

Even small scholarships can significantly help finance your teacher training. Apply for as many scholarships as you qualify for, regardless of the amount offered.

Alternative Funding Options for Yoga Teacher Training

If you’re unable to secure a yoga scholarship, there are alternative funding options that you can explore:

Crowdfunding

Consider creating a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for your teacher training. Share your story, explain your goals, and reach out to friends, family, and the yoga community for support.

Savings and Budgeting

Start saving money well before your teacher training program. Cut back on unnecessary expenses and create a budget to ensure you can set aside enough funds for your training.

Part-Time Work

If possible, take on part-time or freelance gigs to supplement your income and save for your teacher training. It may require some sacrifices, but the end goal of becoming a certified yoga teacher will make it worthwhile.

Payment Plans

Some yoga schools offer flexible payment plans that allow you to pay for your training in installments. Explore this option if you’re unable to pay the full tuition upfront. East+West’s 200-hour training in Bali offers both payment plans and scholarship opportunities for aspiring students. We offer two scholarships per training: one for International students and one for Balinese students. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking support on their yoga journey.
