The Indian jungle and some of the most popular beaches in the world meet in Goa. This charming coastal city became popular in the ’60s when the hippies discovered the beauty of its shoreline and decided to move in to enjoy peacefully their open-minded lifestyle. The North of Goa, especially Arambol and Anjuna, still part of the techno-trance scene that moves masses in India, but the South of the city has a great Zen vibe.

Most of the Yoga schools are located on the South, and the further South you go, the more calm and clean the sealine is.

While the North has the yummiest restaurants and cool shops, it also has huge parties going on 90% of the time.

As difficult as finding a Yoga school in Goa might seem at the start, we have considered the most important aspects that make a school a great choice- from teachings to vibe- every detail counts when it’s about deciding where to invest your time and money. Here we have listed the best schools in the city hoping that one or the other will fit your preferences.

Kranti Yoga

The hippiest Yoga village of Goa for excellence is Kranti Yoga. The residency overlooking the Arabian sea is dreamy and inspiring, and the community builds up with every course and retreat.
Kranti’s facilities are distributed in two different campuses; Moksha, with a direct view into the ocean, and Sattva, a retreat on the gardens.

Six beautiful Yoga shalas are scattered among the property. Our favorite – the treehouse shala- is a perfect hide for meditation or to chill reading a good book.

You will rarely find a Yoga teacher training in India that serves above acceptable or average meals during the course, but, surprise!  the food at Kranti is AMAZING. Delicious homemade vegan cakes; fresh salads, nourishing soups, and even homemade vegan burgers!

A typical daily lunch at Kranti would be:

  • Soup Homemade
  • Spiced Bread (Vegan)
  • Mint & Pea Brown Rice
  • Basmati Rice Dhal (Lentil Curry)
  • Veggie Burger Seasonal
  • Salad Mushroom
  • Garlicky Penne in a Coconut Cream Sauce

The school is great to start your Yoga journey with a multi-style 100 or 200 Hours training. You will learn the basics in a beautiful environment and feel at home from minute 0. Kranti it’s a great beach spot to do what you love with a bunch of like-minded people, living in community and start building your yogic network. Perhaps, to continue your Yogic studies, (300, 500 hours) would be more appropriate to find a course where you can dive deeper into the specific subject or modality you loved the most.

Earth Yoga Village @earthyogavillage

This eco friendly Yoga village is nesttled in the beach paradise of Palolem, one of the finest beaches in Goa. The place is all about re-wiring the vital connection with nature through daily small but impacting projects.

The community was built mainly with natural and organic construction materials, and is located on the other side of a bamboo bridge -that separates it from the rest of the world-. That might mean inconsistent electricity (common issue in rural areas), and ocassional visits from little guests that may want to join you such as monkeys, insects, frogs etc.

Accommodation at the Earth Yoga Village consists of jungle beach huts that are humble but charming. An open air yoga shala and the beach are the settings for the yoga practice and activities, and mats and cushions are provided to all students.

All the meals at the village are home-cooked in the community kitchen and they are nourishing, plant-based and delicious by using fresh vegetables and herbs from local farmers, sourced organically whenever posible. The meals are traditional, (Goan, Indian) wih a continental touch, with loads of fresh veggies and fruits.

The food at the eco-village is considered daily medicine

The trainings held here bring the most important part of Yoga, which is seva and karma yoga. Being at service and working in community is a great opportunity to bring light to some character challenges or struggles you might have. Besides  the common curriculum of a complete teacher training, the teachings at the village help rising awareness towards Mother Nature and give tools to tune in with mindful living.
